New Years parties are prohibited this year, but fireworks can take place the next day.

The Nanaimo NightOwls baseball team, in partnership with the Kw’umut Lelum Foundation and various sponsors, are hosting a fireworks display on Saturday, January 1 at 6 p.m. at the Serauxmen sports fields between Second and Third Streets. Parking will be restricted and the team is asking members of the public to park elsewhere in the area.

The NightOwls are hosting a “Fill the RV” food drive at the ball fields during the day on January 1 before the fireworks display. Food donations for the Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank will be encouraged from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

The NightOwls are gearing up for their first West Coast League baseball season in 2022.
